Occupation of the Channel Islands

In September 1939 Jersey asked the London War Office for costal defence. However, they did not feel the defense was necessary. On June 17, 1940 Germany occupied Jersey.  The Channel Islands were the only British territories to be occupied by Germany in World War II. The Channel Islands include Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm. The occupation lasted for five years and ended May 9, 1945 when The Channel Islands were liberated.
